Mint (Avoid - highly invasive unless contained)

Mint (Avoid - highly invasive unless contained)

Height:

30–80 cm (can be taller in moist places)

Ecological Functions:

  • Aromatic pest deterrent (mice, aphids, cabbage moth, ants)
  • Spreading groundcover in moist pockets
  • Soil cooler and moisture stabiliser
  • Strong insectary (flowers attract bees + hoverflies)
  • Excellent pioneer in reclaimed blackberry zones
  • Tea + medicinal uses

Best Placement:

  • Lower-slope or moist patches
  • Near water tank overflow or greywater channels
  • In partial shade under taller fruit trees
  • Good in containment (root barrier or pot in-ground)
  • Avoid planting where you want delicate groundcovers

Pairs Best With:

  • Feijoa
  • Citrus (cool, moist rootzone synergy)
  • Elderberry
  • Mulberry
  • Persimmon
  • Apple (in moist pockets)
  • Pear
  • Pawpaw (likes moisture)

Suitability:

Thrives in cool temperate settings; vigorous but very useful when placed intelligently.
